The sun's red breath; wet
apples
are like a wind. The bridge wood
smells of tar
its spine full of bullet holes, smells of
The streets'
dry fine sand runs
down to the stream
where the beach
sleeps through winter
and from the rock
down
into the space of water, it runs
The arching elms along the park road
like wise men on a bus
travelling
from Bethlehem to Jerusalem
Autumn is born
